5/24/07– Balata Refugee Camp – Research Journalism Initiative

Approximately 10 Israeli Army vehicles accompanied by Border Police Units invaded Balata Refugee Camp and abducted Salah Jermee (26) and several other men. Witnesses said that undercover Israeli Special Forces dressed as Palestinians accosted Jermee in a coffee shop near the entrance of the camp around 6pm. Additional army units then surrounded the area and exchanged fire with resistance fighters for nearly an hour before leaving.

Civilian residents of the camp threw stones intermittently despite a curfew announced over the Israeli jeeps’ loudspeakers. No injuries were reported.
